Istanbul Modern is implementing an inspiring program that supports creativity in its new museum building. Eco Art Lab, helps us strengthen our bond with nature and the environment through art. Participants can participate in nature-themed workshops and artist events based on works of art in the Eco Art Lab learning area.
Eco Art Lab invites everyone to produce innovative and nature-friendly art and design ideas. Participants establish creative and deep connections with nature and produce new meanings about nature through art.
Eco Art Lab brings together art and design disciplines; It consists of workshops titled “Transformation of Paper”, which are about natural forms, the nature and transformation of objects, and activities titled “Upcycling Workshops with Artists”.
Transformation of Paper
Eco Art Lab starts with an education program in which waste paper accumulated in Istanbul Modern’s recycling bin turns into art. The workshop is inspired by the artworks produced with handmade paper and natural materials in the Istanbul Modern collection. Participants begin the program by examining the works in the museum’s collection. In the workshop, they tear the waste papers, soak them in the paper tub, dry them, and complete the program by drawing patterns on the handmade papers produced.
Upcycling Workshops with Artists
Eco Art Lab, in collaboration with artists, organizes upcycling workshops on topics such as sustainable future, continuity of life for everyone, and environmental change. Participants explore the methods and possibilities of transforming expired objects into art materials or design products with artists and designers from different fields of application.
